Exhibition: Views from the Yucatán: A Maya World

Through the month of November, the Botanical Research Institute of Texas is hosting an exhibition of photos taken by noted photographer Dr. Becky Watson (EdIM), Maya Research Program researcher and BRIT research associate Dr. Grace Lloyd Bascopé, and the children, “The Jaguars,” of the Maya-speaking village of Yaxunah in the state of Yucatán, México. An experiential education program was developed between Watson and Bascopé, where Watson taught a the children a combination of photography and English as a Second Language. The children were encouraged to explore differences in light versus shadow and composition in their photographs. (Homepage photo taken by The Jaguars.)
